Key Clinical Message: This report describes a case of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma with MYD88 L265P and KM2DT mutation and decompensated alcohol-related liver cirrhosis. And the treatment is successful in this patient, who had multiple complications and poor prognostic factors. Abstract: This report describes a case of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma with MYD88 L265P and KM2DT mutation and decompensated alcohol-related liver cirrhosis. The lymphoma showed a complete response with no MYD88 L265P mutation after four courses of combination chemotherapy. Lymphoma is one of the most common malignant tumors, but cases of DLBCL with cirrhosis are much rarer especially with alcohol-related cirrhosis. And we reviewed the relevant mechanisms. Although we did not find a definite association between the pathogenesis of the patient's alcohol-related cirrhosis and that of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, the treatment is successful in this patient, who had multiple complications and poor prognostic factors.

Periaqueductal gray (PAG), an integration center for neuronal signals, is located in the midbrain and regulates multiple physiological and pathological behaviors, including pain, defensive and aggressive behaviors, anxiety and depression, cardiovascular response, respiration, and sleep-wake behaviors. Due to the different neuroanatomical connections and functional characteristics of the four functional columns of PAG, different subregions of PAG synergistically regulate various instinctual behaviors. In the current review, we summarized the role and possible neurobiological mechanism of different subregions of PAG in the regulation of pain, defensive and aggressive behaviors, anxiety, and depression from the perspective of the up-down neuronal circuits of PAG. Furthermore, we proposed the potential clinical applications of PAG. Knowledge of these aspects will give us a better understanding of the key role of PAG in physiological and pathological behaviors and provide directions for future clinical treatments.

The electrolysis of seawater for hydrogen production holds promise as a sustainable technology for energy generation. Developing water-splitting catalysts with low overpotential and stable operation in seawater is essential. In this study, we employed a hydrothermal method to synthesize NiMoWOX microrods (NiMoWOX@NF). Subsequently, an annealing process yielded a composite N-doped carbon-coated Ni3N/MoO2/WO2 nanorods (NC@Ni3N/MoO2/WO2@NF), preserving the ultrahigh-specific surface area of the original structure. A two-electrode electrolytic cell was assembled using NC@Ni3N/MoO2/WO2@NF as the cathode and NiMoWOX@NF as the anode, demonstrating exceptional performance in seawater splitting. The cell operated at a voltage of 1.51 V with a current density of 100 mA·cm-2 in an alkaline seawater solution. Furthermore, the NC@Ni3N/MoO2/WO2@NF || NiMoWOX@NF electrolytic cell exhibited remarkable stability, running continuously for over 120 h at a current of 1100 mA·cm-2 without any observable delay. These experimental results are corroborated by density functional theory calculations. The NC@Ni3N/MoO2/WO2@NF || NiMoWOX@NF electrolyzer emerges as a promising option for industrial-scale hydrogen production through seawater electrolysis.

BACKGROUND: Cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) has been widely used in biomedical research, especially in vitro cancer therapy. Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (CSCC) is a malignant tumor originating from epidermal keratinocytes. However, the mechanism of CAP therapy on CSCC remains unclear. METHODS AND RESULTS: The animal models of CSCC induced by 7,12-dimethylbenz(a) anthracene (DMBA)/12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA) were constructed. For the CAP treatment group, after each TPA application, CAP was administered for 3 min twice weekly after drying. HE staining were used to detect the pathological status of tumor tissue in each group. The levels of PCNA, Bcl-2, Bax, MMP2 and MMP9 were evaluated by western blot and qPCR. TUNEL staining were used to detect apoptosis in tumor tissues. In vivo, serum samples were used for ELISA of total ROS. MTT assay was used to detect the viability of A431 cells. Western blot and qPCR were used to detect the levels of PCNA, Bcl-2, Bax, MMP2 and MMP9 in A431 cells. A431 cell proliferation was examined by colony formation assay. The proportions of apoptosis of A431 cells were detected by flow cytometry. Transwell assessed the ability of A431 cells migration and proliferation. We found that CAP could induce skin cancer cells apoptosis and inhibit the progress of skin cancer. Through experiments in vitro, reactive oxygen species (ROS) generated by N-acetylcysteine (NAC) and CAP inhibited the proliferation and migration of A431 skin cancer cells while promoting apoptosis. CONCLUSIONS: These evidences suggest the protective effect of CAP in CSCC, and CAP has the potential clinical application of CSCC.

The purpose of this study was to explore the histopathological staging and differential diagnosis of marginal zone lymphoma in gastric mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT lymphoma). We performed detailed histomorphology and immunohistochemistry investigations as well as genetic testing on endoscopic biopsy and endoscopic mucosal resection specimens from 18 patients with gastric MALT lymphoma. We found that gastric MALT lymphoma typically begins as a small, isolated area outside the lymphoid follicular mantle zone or proliferates in a multifocal, patchy manner, gradually spreads to the interfollicular zone, forming diffuse proliferation, invades the gastric mucosal glands, and infiltrates or proliferates into the center of peripheral reactive lymphoid follicles. Abnormally proliferating lymphocytes invade the surrounding lymphoid follicles, resulting in damage, atrophy, and disappearance of their normal follicles as well as of the gastric mucosa glands, forming diffuse proliferation. Redifferentiation and proliferation lead to the transformation of lymphocytes; that is, MALT transitions into highly invasive lymphoma. Based on our findings in this study, we propose the following five stages in the process of development and progression of gastric MALT lymphoma: the stage of cell proliferation outside the lymphoid follicular mantle zone; the stage of heterogeneous proliferative lymphoepithelial lesion; the stage of reactive lymphoid follicular implantation; the stage of lymphoid follicular clonal proliferation; and the stage of MALT transforming into highly invasive lymphoma. We examined the differential diagnosis of histopathological features at each stage. The clinicopathological staging of gastric MALT lymphoma can help clinicians provide accurate treatment and track malignant cell transformation, thus playing a significant role in controlling its development and progression.

Corrosion inhibitor additives are considered to be one of the effective methods to slow down the corrosion of metals, but the corrosion inhibitors will decompose and lose their effect in a long-term corrosive environment. In this work, a smart corrosion inhibitor carrier 2-mercaptobenzimidazole-Zn2+-polydopamine@graphite (MZPG) with excellent pH response was designed and synthesized using a one-pot method. This corrosion inhibitor carrier not only has a very high 2-mercaptobenzimidazole (MBI) loading capacity (38.0%) but also maintains a very low MBI activity to inhibit the decomposition of MZPG in the environment as much as possible. The MZPG/epoxy (MZPG/EP) coatings prepared by the spraying method showed excellent mechanical properties. Electrochemical and salt spray tests showed that the MZPG/EP coatings (1.20 × 1010 Ω·cm2) have excellent corrosion resistance with Rp values up to 3 orders of magnitude higher than that of the EP coating (1.25 × 107 Ω·cm2). Notably, the MZPG/EP coatings maintained good corrosion resistance under acidic conditions due to the pH-responsive release of corrosion inhibitors. This is of great significance for the future development of coatings for highly corrosive environments.

Introduction: Danggui Buxue Decoction (DBD) is a clinically proven, effective, classical traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula for treating blood deficiency syndrome (BDS). However, its effects and effective constituents in the treatment of BDS remain unclear, limiting precise clinical therapy and quality control. This study aimed to accurately evaluate the effects of DBD and identify its effective constituents and quality markers. Methods: BDS was induced in rats by a combined injection of acetylphenylhydrazine and cyclophosphamide, and the efficacy of DBD against BDS was evaluated based on body weight, body temperature, energy metabolism, general status, visceral indices, histopathology, biochemical markers, and metabolomics. The effects of DBD on urinary and serum biomarkers of BDS were investigated, and the associated metabolic pathways were analyzed via metabolomics. Guided by Chinmedomics, the effective constituents and quality markers of DBD were identified by analyzing the dynamic links between metabolic biomarkers and effective constituents in vivo. Results: DBD improved energy metabolism, restored peripheral blood and serum biochemical indices, and meliorated tissue damage in rats with BDS. Correlation analyses between biochemical indices and biomarkers showed that 15(S)-HPETE, LTB4, and taurine were core biomakers and that arachidonic acid, taurine, and hypotaurine metabolism were core metabolic pathways regulated by DBD. Calycosin-7-glucoside, coumarin, ferulic acid sulfate, cycloastragenol, (Z)-ligustilide + O, astragaloside IV, acetylastragaloside I, and linoleic acid were identified as effective constituents improving the hematopoietic function of the rats in the BDS model. Additionally, calycosin-7-glucoside, ferulic acid, ligustilide, and astragaloside IV were identified as quality markers of DBD. Conclusion: The hematopoietic function of DBD was confirmed through analysis of energy metabolism, biochemical markers, histopathology, and metabolomics. Moreover, by elucidating effective constituents of DBD in BDS treatment, quality markers were confirmed using a Chinmedomics strategy. These results strengthen the quality management of DBD and will facilitate drug innovation.

Reconstructing complex networks and predicting the dynamics are particularly challenging in real-world applications because the available information and data are incomplete. We develop a unified collaborative deep-learning framework consisting of three modules: network inference, state estimation, and dynamical learning. The complete network structure is first inferred and the states of the unobserved nodes are estimated, based on which the dynamical learning module is activated to determine the dynamical evolution rules. An alternating parameter updating strategy is deployed to improve the inference and prediction accuracy. Our framework outperforms baseline methods for synthetic and empirical networks hosting a variety of dynamical processes. A reciprocity emerges between network inference and dynamical prediction: better inference of network structure improves the accuracy of dynamical prediction, and vice versa. We demonstrate the superior performance of our framework on an influenza dataset consisting of 37 US States and a PM2.5 dataset covering 184 cities in China.

BACKGROUND: Multilocular thymic cyst (MTC) is a rare mediastinal lesion which is considered to occur in the process of acquired inflammation. It is usually characterized by well-defined cystic density and is filled with transparent liquid. CASE SUMMARY: We report on a 39-year-old male with a cystic-solid mass in the anterior mediastinum. Computer tomography (CT) imaging showed that the mass was irregular with unclear boundaries. After injection of contrast agent, there was a slight enhancement of stripes and nodules. According to CT findings, it was diagnosed as thymic cancer. CONCLUSION: After surgery, MTC accompanied by bleeding and infection was confirmed by pathological examination. The main lesson of this case was that malignant thymic tumor and MTC of the anterior mediastinum sometimes exhibit similar CT findings. Caution is necessary in clinical work to avoid misdiagnosis.

Layered transition metal oxides (NaxTMO2) possess attractive features such as large specific capacity, high ionic conductivity, and a scalable synthesis process, making them a promising cathode candidate for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs). However, NaxTMO2 suffer from multiple phase transitions and Na+/vacancy ordering upon Na+ insertion/extraction, which is detrimental to their electrochemical performance. Herein, we developed a novel cathode material that exhibits an abnormal P2-type structure at a stoichiometric content of Na up to 1. The cathode material delivers a reversible capacity of 108 mA h g-1 at 0.2C and 97 mA h g-1 at 2C, retaining a capacity retention of 76.15% after 200 cycles within 2.0-4.3 V. In situ diffraction studies demonstrated that this material exhibits an absolute solid-solution reaction with a low volume change of 0.8% during cycling. This near-zero-strain characteristic enables a highly stabilized crystal structure for Na+ storage, contributing to a significant improvement in battery performance. Overall, this work presents a simple yet effective approach to realizing high Na content in P2-type layered oxides, offering new opportunities for high-performance SIB cathode materials.

The vast majority of all global species have circadian rhythm cycles that allow them to adapt to natural environments. These regular rhythms are regulated by core clock genes and recent studies have also implicated roles for microRNAs in this regulation. Oviposition is an important circadian behavior in the reproductive cycle of insect vectors of diseases, and little is known about the rhythm or its regulation in mosquitoes. Aedes albopictus is a diurnal mosquito that transmits arboviruses and is the major cause of outbreaks of dengue fever in China. We analyzed the oviposition rhythm patterns of A. albopictus under different light/dark conditions and show that the mosquitoes have an oviposition peak between zeitgeber time 9 (ZT 9) and ZT 12. Furthermore, the antagomir-mediated knockdown of expression of the microRNA miR-2940-1 affected the oviposition rhythm of A. albopictus. These data support the conclusion that miR-2940-1 is involved in the regulation of oviposition rhythm in A. albopictus and provide a foundation for using oviposition rhythms as a new target for vector mosquito control.

BACKGROUND: We aimed to compare combined intraoperative chemotherapy and surgical resection with curative surgical resection alone in colorectal cancer patients. METHODS: We performed a multicenter, open-label, randomized, phase III trial. All eligible patients were randomized and assigned to intraoperative chemotherapy and curative surgical resection or curative surgical resection alone (1:1). Survival actualization after long-term follow-up was performed in patients analyzed on an intention-to-treat basis. RESULTS: From January 2011 to January 2016, 696 colorectal cancer patients were enrolled and randomly assigned to intraoperative chemotherapy and radical surgical resection (n=341) or curative surgical resection alone (n=344). Intraoperative chemotherapy with surgical resection showed no significant survival benefit over surgical resection alone in colorectal cancer patients (3-year DFS: 91.1% vs. 90.0%, P=0.328; 3-year OS: 94.4% vs. 95.9%, P=0.756). However, colon cancer patients benefitted from intraoperative chemotherapy, with a relative 4% reduction in liver and peritoneal metastasis (HR=0.336, 95% CI: 0.148-0.759, P=0.015) and a 6.5% improvement in 3-year DFS (HR=0.579, 95% CI: 0.353-0.949, P=0.032). Meanwhile, patients with colon cancer and abnormal pretreatment CEA levels achieved significant survival benefits from intraoperative chemotherapy (DFS: HR=0.464, 95% CI: 0.233-0.921, P=0.029 and OS: (HR=0.476, 95% CI: 0.223-1.017, P=0.049). CONCLUSIONS: Intraoperative chemotherapy showed no significant extra prognostic benefit in total colorectal cancer patients who underwent radical surgical resection; however, in colon cancer patients with abnormal pretreatment serum CEA levels (> 5 ng/ml), intraoperative chemotherapy could improve long-term survival.

OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to discover novel antifungals targeting Candida albicans glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (CaGAPDH), have an insight into inhibitory mode, and provide evidence supporting CaGAPDH as a target for new antifungals. METHODS: Virtual screening was utilized to discover inhibitors of CaGAPDH. The inhibitory effect on cellular GAPDH was evaluated by determining the levels of ATP, NAD, NADH, etc., as well as examining GAPDH mRNA and protein expression. The role of GAPDH inhibition in C. albicans was supported by drug affinity responsive target stability and overexpression experiments. The mechanism of CaGAPDH inhibition was elucidated by Michaelis-Menten enzyme kinetics and site-specific mutagenesis based on docking. Chemical synthesis was used to produce an improved candidate. Different sources of GAPDH were used to evaluate inhibitory selectivity across species. In vitro and in vivo antifungal tests, along with antibiofilm activity, were carried out to evaluate antifungal potential of GAPDH inhibitors. RESULTS: A natural xanthone was identified as the first competitive inhibitor of CaGAPDH. It demonstrated in vitro anti-C. albicans potential but also caused hemolysis. XP-W, a synthetic side-chain-optimized xanthone, demonstrated a better safety profile, exhibiting a 50-fold selectivity for CaGAPDH over human GAPDH. XP-W also exhibited potent antibiofilm activity and displayed broad-spectrum anti-Candida activities in vitro and in vivo, including multi-azole-resistant C. albicans. CONCLUSION: These results demonstrate for the first time that CaGAPDH is a valuable target for antifungal drug discovery, and XP-W provides a promising lead.

BACKGROUND: Association between breast cancer (BC) and thyroid nodules (TNs) is still unclear. This research was to estimate the prevalence and risk factors of TN in Chinese BC women at initial diagnosis. METHODS: 1731 Chinese early-stage BC women at initial diagnosis underwent thyroid ultrasound and 1:1 age-matched Chinese healthy women underwent health examination in corresponding period were enrolled for analysis. RESULTS: Prevalence of TN and TI-RADS ≥ 4 TN in BC patients (56.27% and 9.76%) were higher than healthy people (46.04% and 5.49%), respectively, P < 0.001. Among BC patients, prevalence of TN and TI-RADS ≥ 4 TN in hormone receptor (HR)-positive patients (59.57% and 11.81%) were higher than HR-negative patients (48.77% and 5.10%), respectively, P < 0.001, while without difference between HR-negative patients and healthy people. After adjusting for age and BMI, HR-positive patients had higher risk of TN (OR = 1.546, 95%CI 1.251-1.910, P < 0.001) and TI-RADS ≥ 4 TN (OR = 3.024, 95%CI 1.943-4.708, P < 0.001) than HR-negative patients. Furthermore, the risk of TI-RADS ≥ 4 TN was higher in patients with estrogen receptor (ER) positive (OR = 2.933, 95%CI 1.902-4.524), progesterone receptor (PR) positive (OR = 1.973, 95%CI 1.378-2.826), Ki-67 < 20% (OR = 1.797, 95%CI 1.280-2.522), and tumor size < 2 cm (OR = 1.804, 95%CI 1.276-2.552), respectively, P < 0.001. CONCLUSIONS: Prevalence of TN, especially TI-RADS ≥ 4 TN, in Chinese early-stage BC women was higher than healthy people. HR-positive patients had higher prevalence and risk of TN, while without difference between HR-negative patients and healthy people. The increased risk of TN was correlated with ER-positive, PR-positive, lower Ki-67 expression, and smaller tumor size.

Mental and physical disorders (MPD) are inextricably linked in many medical cases; psychosomatic diseases can be induced by mental concerns and psychological discomfort can ensue from physiological diseases. However, existing medical informatics studies focus on identifying mental or physical disorders from a unilateral perspective. Consequently, no existing domain knowledge base, corpus, or detection modeling approach considers mental as well as physical aspects concurrently. This paper proposes a joint modeling approach to detect MPD. First, we crawl through online medical consultation records of patients from websites and build an MPD knowledge ontology by extracting the core conceptual features of the text. Based on the ontology, an MPD knowledge graph containing 12,673 nodes and 82,195 relations is obtained using term matching with a domain thesaurus of each concept. Subsequently, an MPD corpus with fine-grained severities (None, Mild, Moderate, Severe, Dangerous) and 8909 records is constructed by formulating MPD classification criteria and a data annotation process under the guidance of domain experts. Taking the knowledge graph and corpus as the dataset, we design a multi-task learning model to detect the MPD severity, in which a knowledge graph attention network (KGAT) is embedded to better extract knowledge features. Experiments are performed to demonstrate the effectiveness of our model. Furthermore, we employ ontology-based and centrality-based methods to discover additional potential inferred knowledge, which can be captured by KGAT so as to improve the prediction performance and interpretability of our model. Our dataset has been made publicly available, so it can be further used as a medical informatics reference in the fields of psychosomatic medicine, psychiatrics, physical co-morbidity, and so on.

Maize (Zea mays) smut is a common biotrophic fungal disease caused by Ustilago maydis and leads to low maize yield. Maize resistance to U. maydis is a quantitative trait. However, the molecular mechanism underlying the resistance of maize to U. maydis is poorly understood. Here, we reported that a maize mutant caused by a single gene mutation exhibited defects in both fungal resistance and plant development. maize mutant highly susceptible to U. maydis (mmsu) with a dwarf phenotype forms tumors in the ear. A map-based cloning and allelism test demonstrated that one gene encoding a putative arogenate dehydratase/prephenate dehydratase (ADT/PDT) is responsible for the phenotypes of the mmsu and was designated as ZmADT2. Combined transcriptomic and metabolomic analyses revealed that mmsu had substantial differences in multiple metabolic pathways in response to U. maydis infection compared with the wild type. Disruption of ZmADT2 caused damage to the chloroplast ultrastructure and function, metabolic flux redirection, and reduced the amounts of salicylic acid (SA) and lignin, leading to susceptibility to U. maydis and dwarf phenotype. These results suggested that ZmADT2 is required for maintaining metabolic flux, as well as resistance to U. maydis and plant development in maize. Meanwhile, our findings provided insights into the maize response mechanism to U. maydis infection.

Monocular depth estimation has a wide range of applications in the field of autostereoscopic displays, while accuracy and robustness in complex scenes are still a challenge. In this paper, we propose a depth estimation network for autostereoscopic displays, which aims at improving the accuracy of monocular depth estimation by fusing Vision Transformer (ViT) and Convolutional Neural Network (CNN). Our approach feeds the input image as a sequence of visual features into the ViT module and utilizes its global perception capability to extract high-level semantic features of the image. The relationship between the losses is quantified by adding a weight correction module to improve robustness of the model. Experimental evaluation results on several public datasets show that AMENet exhibits higher accuracy and robustness than existing methods in different scenarios and complex conditions. In addition, a detailed experimental analysis was conducted to verify the effectiveness and stability of our method. The accuracy improvement on the KITTI dataset compared to the baseline method is 4.4%. In summary, AMENet is a promising depth estimation method with sufficient high robustness and accuracy for monocular depth estimation tasks.

As an important part of medical science, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) attracts much public attention due to its multi-target and multi-pathway characteristics in treating diseases. However, the limitations of traditional research methods pose a dilemma for the evaluation of clinical efficacy, the discovery of active ingredients and the elucidation of the mechanism of action. Therefore, innovative approaches that are in line with the characteristics of TCM theory and clinical practice are urgently needed. Chinmendomics, a newly emerging strategy for evaluating the efficacy of TCM, is proposed. This strategy combines systems biology, serum pharmacochemistry of TCM and bioinformatics to evaluate the efficacy of TCM with a holistic view by accurately identifying syndrome biomarkers and monitoring their complex metabolic processes intervened by TCM, and finding the agents associated with the metabolic course of pharmacodynamic biomarkers by constructing a bioinformatics-based correlation network model to further reveal the interaction between agents and pharmacodynamic targets. In this article, we review the recent progress of Chinmedomics to promote its application in the modernisation and internationalisation of TCM.

Epidemiological evidence has indicated a closely link between PM0.1 exposure and the incidence rate of cardiovascular diseases. This study explores the underlying communication roles of platelet-derived extracellular vesicles (PEVs) heterogeneous subpopulations in cardiovascular injury. PEVs and PMEVs which were extracted from platelet-rich plasma (PRP) un-exposure or exposure to PM0.1 by TIM4 affinity beads. By optimizing separation conditions, replacing pipelines, and resetting injection procedures, Asymmetric flow field-flow fractionation (AF4) was employed to separate, purify, characterize, and enrich PEVs and PMEVs heterogeneous subpopulations (small PEVs, PEVs-S/PMEVs-S: <100 nm; medium PEVs, PEVs-M/PMEVs-M: 100-200 nm; and large PEVs, PEVs-L/PMEVs-L: >200 nm). The results showed that the cargoes of PMEVs heterogeneous subpopulations which were released by PRP stimulated by PM0.1 were changed obviously. Moreover, compared with PEVs, PMEVs can lead to a decrease in the survival rate of Human Umbilical Vein Endothelial Cells (HUVECs). In PMEVs-S subpopulations, the alterations of lipids associated with membrane fusion and cell signaling transport (such as PC, Cer), as well as miRNAs related to inflammation, angiogenesis, and migration (miR-223, miR-22, miR-126, and miR-150), are similar to those in PMEVs-M subpopulations but distinct from PMEVs-L subpopulations. This study revealed the diverse communication mechanisms underlying PM0.1-induced cardiovascular injury, thereby offering potential avenues for the development of new biomarkers and therapeutic targets.

Pathological cardiac hypertrophy (CH) is driven by maladaptive changes in myocardial cells in response to pressure overload or other stimuli. CH has been identified as a significant risk factor for the development of various cardiovascular diseases, ultimately resulting in heart failure. Melanoma differentiation-associated protein 5 (MDA5), encoded by interferon-induced with helicase C domain 1 (IFIH1), is a cytoplasmic sensor that primarily functions as a detector of double-stranded ribonucleic acid (dsRNA) viruses in innate immune responses; however, its role in CH pathogenesis remains unclear. Thus, the aim of this study was to examine the relationship between MDA5 and CH using cellular and animal models generated by stimulating neonatal rat cardiomyocytes with phenylephrine and by performing transverse aortic constriction on mice, respectively. MDA5 expression was upregulated in all models. MDA5 deficiency exacerbated myocardial pachynsis, fibrosis, and inflammation in vivo, whereas its overexpression hindered CH development in vitro. In terms of the underlying molecular mechanism, MDA5 inhibited CH development by promoting apoptosis signal-regulating kinase 1 (ASK1) phosphorylation, thereby suppressing c-Jun N-terminal kinase/p38 signaling pathway activation. Rescue experiments using an ASK1 activation inhibitor confirmed that ASK1 phosphorylation was essential for MDA5-mediated cell death. Thus, MDA5 protects against CH and is a potential therapeutic target.
